Catholic Laity will post on this page current action items, both those the leadership is pursuing and those we are asking members to participate in. Please let us know by email, catholiclaitydc@gmail.com, what you are doing.
1. We are requesting a meeting for Catholic Laity leadership with Archbishop Christophe Pierre, the Apostolic Nuncio. The leadership has done this by letter to the Nuncio and we ask that all Catholic Laity members also contact the Nuncio and ask him to meet with the leadership. The Nuncio is the Vatican's contact for recommendations for appointments of Bishops. His contact information is on the Contact Information page. We want to discuss with him the appointment of a worthy shepherd for the Archdiocese of Washington, both the qualifications and some candidates to be considered.
Action Item: Write, call, or email the Nuncio and ask him to meet with the leadership of Catholic Laity. See our letters on the Letters page and find his email address on the Contact information page.
2. The leadership is contacting five U.S. bishops who spoke up at the USCCB meeting in November, calling for bishops to recognize their individual responsibilities as successors of the Apostles, to teach the fullness of the Faith, not to tolerate moral ambiguity, and to practice fraternal correction:

We want to talk to these bishops about building communications and trust between the hierarchy and the laity. Please pray for fruitful discussions and collaboration.
Action Item: Pray for the bishops that they will shoulder their responsibilities individually as Successors of the Apostles.
3. We want to assemble ideas for what can be done to address the mishandling of the sexual abuse crisis by bishops and clergy and to break up the homosexual networks that are strangling many dioceses. As a practical matter, we are going to have to depend on local or at most national solutions. But this might be a blessing in disguise as it will be an opportunity for those bishops willing to take responsibility for their dioceses to do so without waiting for permission they don't need. Please send us your ideas at catholiclaitydc@gmail.com.
Action Item: Email us your ideas on how bishops can begin to reform their dioceses.
4. Cardinal Wuerl is currently scheduled to lead the Youth Rally and Mass for Life in Washington, in conjunction with the annual March for Life on January 18, 2019. The Rally and Mass are major events organized by the Archdiocese of Washington and attended by tens of thousands of young people. Given that Cardinal Wuerl has been implicated in the cover-up of the sexual abuse of young people, Catholic Laity is joining with parents in the Archdiocese to ask the organizing office, the Department of Life Issues, to ask Cardinal Wuerl to withdraw from the events. Please support this effort by contacting the Department of Life Issues. See the Contact Information page.
Action Item: Write or email the Department of Life Issues and ask that Cardinal Wuerl not attend the Youth Rally and Mass for Life on January 18. This item succeeded and Cardinal Wuerl was replaced at the Mass by the Papal Nuncio. Thank you!
5. In conjunction with the March for Life on January 18, Catholic Laity will hold a rally at 10:00 am at the Apostolic Nunciature, Massachusetts Avenue and 34th St., NW, Washington. The purpose of the rally is to make known to the Nuncio and the Bishops of the United States our desire to work with them in restoring our Church. The Nuncio and many Bishops have spoken about the necessity of working with the laity and we want to give them our response: Here we are. Talk to us.
Please come join us. After the rally, you will have time to take the bus downtown to the March for Life.
Action Item: Come to the rally on January 18 and let the Nuncio and the Bishops know that you are ready to work with them and support their efforts for reform. Go to the Videos page to see the rally. Thank you to all who came and all who prayed.
6. Please pray daily for the work of Catholic Laity. Our clergy will not be restored to holiness without the prayers, persistence, and example of the laity.
Action Item: Attend Mass, pray the Rosary, offer sacrifices for our Church, that we will be blessed with worthy shepherds who will zealously protect the flock from the wolves among us.
7. On February 16, Catholic Laity will hold a rally at 2:00 pm at the Apostolic Nunciature, Massachusetts Avenue and 34th St., NW, Washington. The purpose of the rally is to make known to the Nuncio and the Bishops of the United States our desire to work with them in restoring our Church. The Nuncio and many Bishops have spoken about the necessity of working with the laity and we want to give them our response: Here we are. Talk to us.
Please come join us. Persistence in our efforts is essential. Remember the Lord's parable about the widow who kept knocking on the door of the corrupt judge: we must not stop.
